The Jolly Roger Restaurant

The Jolly Roger Inn is an open-air bar and restaurant in Soper’s Hole, West End and has long been a favorite haunt for both locals and visitors.  Their own 100 foot dinghy dock also makes it a convenient place for sailors to come ashore and The Jolly Roger has an atmosphere that has led to it being referred to as ‘the heartbeat of West End’.

During the main season, there is a regular, exciting Caribbean style barbecue, with live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night, which often features guest bands from the US as well as some of the island’s most popular musicians.

The quality of the food at The Jolly Roger has been consistently excellent for a number of years now, resulting in it being variously awarded Best in the BVI, Best Chef, Best Breakfast, Best Lunch, Best BBQ and Best Bar by the BVI Daily News.  The food is freshly prepared using local herbs, spices and fresh fish and could best be described as Creative Caribbean, but with Pan Asian and Mediterranean Fusion cuisine also served. 

To give you a tantalizing idea of the type of food on offer, the last menu I saw included Asian marinated calamari salad, served in a Wonton cup over wakami, amongst the starters.  The main courses included both chili rubbed chicken breast served with chipotle cream, mushroom polenta and mixed vegetables and also shrimps, scallops and mussels served with tomato, bell pepper, Portobello mushrooms, garlic and herbs in white wine and extra virgin olive oil over linguini.  If that doesn’t start the taste buds working, then nothing will!

The Jolly Roger, a local favorite

Regular diners here all have their own specific favorites, ranging from the breakfast omelets to the stewed and cracked conch or the fantastic burgers, but there are also daily specials which can prove equally tempting.  Always justifiably popular, though, are the Signature Pizzas, freshly prepared with a scrumptious variety of toppings.  When you eat here, however, you must make sure you leave room for the homemade Key Lime Pie -it’s unforgettable and should not be missed.
