Sunsail Yacht Charters, Tortola
Sunsail Yacht Charters is one of the most prestigious
companies operating in the British Virgin Islands and its Tortola operations
have been so successful that they have recently relocated to a larger, more
central marina at Wickhams Cay II, in the heart of Road Town.
Sunsail Charters have a fleet totaling more than a thousand
yachts worldwide, which they are constantly updating, and are confident in their
ability to offer you the perfect choice for your charter vacation – whether you
are a first-time adventurer or an experienced sailor. You will be able to choose
yachts from 33 feet to 52 feet, either monohulls or catamarans.
A catamaran might often be a good choice for large groups
or families with children – they have more room both above and below deck,
minimum heeling and a small draft, which makes it easier to anchor in some of
the shallow bays of the Virgin Islands. Whichever type of craft you select,
though, you can be certain that you will be provided with optimum comfort,
performance and safety during your time on board.
The craft will generally have amongst its specifications:
GPS, Upgraded refrigeration, extra ports and hatches, cabin fans, pressurized
hot water, 240v inverter for shore power at anchor, water meter, 12v socket,
autopilots, electric windass, wind instruments, fully battened mainsail with
lazy lines and stack packs, furling genoa sail, custom-mad bimini top and roll
down sun screens, windscoops, cockpit cushions, fully-equipped galley, complete
linen, FM radio/ CD player, Transom BBQ, outboard engine and even snorkeling
equipment.
Crucially, the safety equipment provided ensures total
safety of mind for charter customers – including a navigation kit, electronic
log, echo sounder, main and hand bearing compass, cruising notes and/or pilot
book, chart plotter, dividers, parallel rule, pencils, eraser and binoculars,
VHF radio, inflatable or rigid bottom dinghy, lifejackets and safety harnesses,
children’s buoyancy aids and harnesses, lifebuoy, flares, fire extinguisher,
first aid kit and a flashlight with batteries. There really is complete
attention to detail.
This attention is also shown in the variety of provisioning
packages available to you, which enable you to be as flexible as you wish.
Taking advantage of the Sunsail provisioning service will mean you can relax
because all of your provisions will be delivered to your yacht prior to your
holiday.
If you are a very inexperienced sailor – or if you just
want to relax as much as possible and let someone else take the strain – then
Sunsail offer the possibility of hiring a Sunsail skipper to accompany you on
your charter. Your skipper will require a cabin during the time you have the
boat, but will take care of all the day-to-day running of the yacht – although
you can get involved if you wish – and will even be able to give you advice and
information about the places you are visiting.
If you are determined to sail yourself, then Sunsail do not
insist on formal qualifications before you charter, simply that you can show
experience in boats similar to the one you want to hire. They have a briefing
room in Tortola where they will be able to fully advise you before your trip and
will give you all the help necessary to make your vacation a success.
Finally, you might want to consider joining a flotilla for
a week or two, for a very different sailing experience. If this appeals to you,
then Sunsail are experienced at organizing these, taking in the main sites of
the British Virgin Islands.
Whichever type of vacation you choose, you can be
completely confident that Sunsail Yacht Charters will have all the facilities,
performance and equipment you need to really get the most out of your trip.
