The Limeberry House
The Limeberry House has been described as ‘probably the
most colorful villa on Tortola’ and a glimpse of this secluded Caribbean
hideaway, with its blues, pinks, terra cottas and assorted coral colors, will
quickly tell you why.
Situated in the far west of the island, on the highly
regarded Belmont Estate, Limeberry House was built in 1987 but completely
overhauled by its current owners, Jon and Katy Morley, who purchased it seven
years’ later. It now represents, with just three bedrooms, a chance for a
breakaway vacation in a house that combines traditional Caribbean character with
modern facilities and imaginative design. In addition, you are still only a
leisurely ten minute walk from the mile-long surf beach at Long Bay, and a
slightly longer one to the enticing serenity of Smuggler’s Cove. This makes
Limeberry quite unusual for a Tortola villa – most are high up in the hills and
not within walking distance of beaches.
The Limeberry House Amenities
It’s not simply location that makes Limeberry House such an
exceptional choice, however. Guests are offered three light, airy and
exquisitely designed king-sized suites, in separate areas for further privacy.
All three suites have bedrooms with en-suite facilities as well as guests
having Viking kitchen appliances, microwave, ice-making, fridge/freezer,
dishwasher, blender, picnic coolers, washer/dryer, CD player and CDs, TV with
VCR and DVD and a barbecue, beach chairs and umbrellas.
The rooms and furnishings are all of a uniformly high
standard, with many traditional Caribbean touches – such as louvered windows and
exposed beams coupled with wicker armchairs and muslin nets. This is a house in
which you can definitely spend time relaxing and just enjoying life – and if you
really do have to keep in touch with the outside world, there’s high-speed
internet access.
Combine all these aspects with mature gardens offering
views of the Caribbean and Jost Van Dyke in the distance.
Limeberry has its own good-sized swimming pool which is on
a veranda just below the main living area and with a light blue decking
section. The pool surrounds you with the scent of flowering hibiscus, allamanda
and bougainvillea – for a romantic, private vacation, there can be nowhere
better.
There is snorkeling equipment available for guests’ use and
also three Rigid Inflatable Boats for hire, should you want to explore the coves
and bays by water rather than land. The staff will willingly help you to book
diving or sailing or any other activities you wish to try while staying in
Tortola. Because Limeberry House is situated at the western end of the island,
and the access road is quite tricky, you will almost certainly need to rent a
car if you want to do any serious exploring – and ideally a 4 wheel drive jeep.
It is recommended that you have your vehicle delivered to the house after your
arrival – the rental company will issue your local driving permit. You can rent
vehicles at Beef Island Airport, and you can leave them there on your departure.
From the very first time you enter the Belmont Estate and
glimpse the vibrant house awaiting you right up to the moment you have to drag
yourself away on your final day – there is one thing you can be very sure of:
The Limeberry House is one exceptionally special place!
