Horseback Riding in Tortola

There are surprisingly few opportunities to go horseback riding in Tortola, despite the obvious attractions it has for the holidaymaker.  Every horseback rider knows that life looks differently from the top of a horse; you get a better perspective on the world.

Add the sense of calm tranquility that ambling on a horse along a forest trail can give you to the invigorating adrenalin rush you would enjoy dashing through the water’s edge of a pristine sandy beach and horseback riders have a true paradise here in the heart of the British Virgin Islands.

Currently, many hotels and villas are advertising Horseback riding to their guests and they mainly use the services of the Shadow Stables, which can be found on Ridge Road, just to the east of Skyworld.  Shadow Stables generally offer riders a choice of three tours on their horses.  The first of these is a one hour ride along Ridge Road, which will give riders some wonderful panoramic views of the capital, Road Town.

The two hour ride takes advantage of the proximity of the stables to Sage Mountain and trekkers can amble through the forest, as well as having some fine views of the outlying islands.

The three hour tour is the rider’s dream Caribbean experience – you ride down to Cane Garden Bay, the beautiful beach on the North Shore of the island, where you can feel the sea breeze as you gallop along the beach, before making your way back to the stables by way of the High Road.

All of the horses provided by the stables come with full equipment for riders to be able to safely enjoy their horseback riding experience.  Customers need to remember, though, that all the equipment is in the English style.

If you’re a horseback rider, then the experience of riding in Tortola will be one to truly treasure.  There are so many breathtaking views to enjoy and such untainted air to breathe in, that it will surely be a highlight of your time here.  Because of the small number of horses available at any one time, you are strongly advised to contact the stables well in advance to make sure that you will not be disappointed.  The Shadow Stables can be contacted by telephone at 284 4942262.
