Quantock House: Beauty In The Sky
Quantock House is located on Green Bank, in north central
Tortola. Homes in this area face north, and are backed by Tortola's single
mountain Mount Sage. This villa, unlike most of the other homes on Tortola, sits
very high above sea level, a thousand feet up, with a commanding view of most of
the island, the other nearby Virgin Islands, and the Sir Francis Drake Channel.
There are few places more perfect for watching yacht regattas. You may find the climate this high to be different from the
rest of the island – damper and cooler, especially at night. If you're going
to stay at Quantock House, it's a good idea to bring a sweater or two. Quantock House's Amenities Quantock House has four bedrooms, a king, two regular
queens, and the Elephant Suite, which has two queen-size beds. All rooms have
air conditioning and bathrooms. A maximum of ten guests can stay at any time,
including children. The pool is set to catch the sun, so it's generally quite
warm. Maid service is available two days a week. Smoking is permitted outside
only. A washer and dryer are available for guests' use. There are five satellite televisions, and a generous music
and movie library for guest use. You also have access to some snorkeling gear, a
safe, and a small gymnasium with a
stationary bike, weights, and a good scale. A wooden crib is provided for the
smallest guests. Quantock House is extremely private, behind a gated
entrance and extensive mountainous grounds. The house itself is built on two
different levels, and features an open Great Room, formal dining, and full
kitchen. The veranda offers a second open-air dining area with a gas grill,
where you can sit at twilight and watch the lights flicker downhill and on the
water. During the day, the view from here is amazing, possibly the best on the
island, perfect for just looking around with the provided telescope. You have plenty of access to the view, too. Each bedroom
has a private terrace with a good sea view, and the pool and deck offer a more
obscured sight of the ocean, with beautiful plants surrounding the curved pool.
In the garden nearby, you can enjoy tropical flowers and pluck your own fruit
from mature plants: banana, paw-paw, avocado. If you only come away with one thing from Quantock House,
it will be the impression of space: the panoramic view, the generous terrace,
the lofty great room, all are stunning in their spaciousness. Nearby Attractions Despite its height, Quantock House is close to a wide
variety of Tortola's finest attractions. Cane Garden Bay and Brewers Bay, with
excellent beaches, shops, and restaurants, are only a ten-minute drive away.
Road Town is only fifteen minutes. The airport is nearly a half-hour drive,
which is about as far away as anything on Tortola gets.
