Tortola Rentals, Tara: A Bright, Airy, Private Vacation Home
Red tile roofs and classic arch-based architecture gives
Tara a distinctly Spanish flavor. Located at West End's Belmont in Tortola, this
recently-refurbished villa is open to as many as eight guests including
children, and has three bedrooms plus a sofa bed in the study, all with air
conditioning. Not that you'll need artificial cooling – Tara sits high on a
mountainside, open on three sides to the cooling breeze from the ocean below.
Tara, despite its Irish name, is decorated Caribbean
style with original art from all over the world, tile floors, and stone walls
that blend well with the tropical gardens that flourish throughout this relaxing
villa. Everywhere you go in this lovely home, you'll find panoramic ocean
views, which you can enjoy with the provided telescope and binoculars.
Specs
At Tara, you'll have access to satellite TV and a 250-CD
jukebox with Bose surround sound, as well as an extensive media library. Cooking
can be done in a gourmet kitchen with a six-burner commercial oven or with the
professional gas grill outside. If you bring your baby, you'll also find a crib,
playpen, and highchair for him.
Maid service is available two days every week, and a
laundry is on site. Guests are required to smoke outside only. During the
Christmas season, all booked stays must be of at least ten days duration.
Special Features at Tara's
Its four pavilions all open onto a central plaza featuring
a bright pool overlooking the water. If
you get too cold, you can warm up in the six-person hot tub near the pool.
The large king suite pavilion features a private balcony
and an outdoor shower.
The main pavilion boasts all the indoor living space you
could want, with a Bose surround sound system for the entertainment center and
an overstuffed couch from which to enjoy it. Or you can step into the outdoor
living area, where you can sit and gaze over the area near Smuggler's Cove while
you read and relax. This covered room also has a tiki bar, fully stocked on the
honor system, and an ice maker and refrigerator.
On the east side of the main pavilion you'll find a covered
garden pavilion, a fountain as the centerpiece, and a dining table with arch
windows framing the ocean view below. The nearby office pavilion holds not only
a spare twin bed and a sofa bed but a DSL line and everything you need to stay
in touch with the office if you really must.
The two remaining pavilions are both queen suits with
private bathrooms and outdoor spaces, one with a deck and garden and the other
with a balcony and outdoor shower. In any of the outside areas, you may
encounter the owner's friendly cat, Rolex.
What's close by Tara's
The nearest beaches are the very private and hidden
Smuggler's Cove, about a ten-minute walk away, and Long Bay, about a five-minute
drive. In Long Bay, you'll also find plenty of good restaurants and unique shops
where you can purchase authentic island art. If you walk to Smuggler's Cove,
bring your own lunch; the only thing you'll find there is a snack bar where they
make great blender drinks. You will also find excellent restaurants in Soper's
Hole and West End, as well as the ferry dock.
