The Dove Restaurant, Tortola
The Dove Restaurant, Jazz and Wine Bar can be found in one
of the original buildings on Main Street in Road Town; a quaint 1912
gingerbread-trimmed cottage.
One of the few restaurants where we can’t eulogize about
the view, The Dove makes up for it by having fabulous food, a terrific
atmosphere, good service and some top quality jazz.
You can enjoy your pre-dinner aperitif under the shade of a mango tree
and then retreat to the bar and finish the evening listening to some mellow
jazz. And between pre-dinner drink
and post-dinner jazz – you can be sure of some exquisite food.
The Dove Restaurant is undoubtedly one of the best
restaurants around when it comes to haute cuisine.
The small menu changes weekly to reflect what produce is available but
you can always be sure to see inventive dishes prepared from locally grown and
imported ingredients. The food
could probably best be described as Asian and French fusion but The Dove
certainly has its own style. You will often find delicious sushi, Asian style
dumplings or softshell crab appetizers amongst the starters and the main courses
include such delicious and inventive dishes as prawns seasoned with vanilla and
jalapeño peppers; five-peppercorn steak; Thai green curry with prawns;
spanakopita with a red pepper concassé; seared
scallops; rack of lamb and a breathtaking Chilean sea bass, all served with
imaginative accompaniments. As can
be seen from these tantalizing examples, you can be sure there will be something
for every person in your party at The Dove.
It’s also worth saving something so that you can enjoy some of the
chef’s home-made ice creams or sorbets – that’s if you are not tempted by
the fantastic chocolate soufflé that people always enthuse over.
An added bonus is that The Dove has an incredible wine
list, featuring over 100 different wines- 20 or so of them available by the
glass; again reflecting the care that the owners have taken to ensure that
things are always perfect for their guests.
The bar and restaurant are popular places for the locals – the younger
‘yuppie’ crowd from the Trust Companies often come in for a glass or two of
bubbly during the daily Champagne Happy Hour, from 5 until 7.
There is also a very popular Saturday Hangover Brunch,
from 10.30 through to 2.30.
This is elegant dining at its best and is highly
recommended by almost everyone who goes there – its popularity with the locals
speaks volumes for its quality and value for money.
You really need to make reservations at The Dove, which is closed on
